I'm finally taking the plunge and moving into a one bedroom apartment for my last year of university. I couldn't be happier. I found the most perfect apartment in January and have been thinking up decorating ideas ever since. Of course, as a renter, I'm limited to what I can do/want to do. All I know is I have a walk-in-closet, which is basically going to be my heaven.

Alex Valenzuela, the fashionable creator and author behind Styelista Confessions, has been a lover of fashion for as long as she can remember. Alex use to hide the latest issues of Vogue inside her textbooks, which shows that from a young age Alex had an innate passion for fashion. Alex recently graduated from Fashion School in June of 2011 with a Bachelor's of Arts in Fashion Marketing from The Art Institute of Phoenix. With recently moving back to her home state of California, she is now working for various companies, freelancing, as she searches for a permanent position.

What made you decide to start a blog?

I started my blog in September of 2009 after realizing I had so many obsessions and ideas that I wanted to share with my peers and blogging world. For me, starting a blog seemed like the perfect way to combine all things that I loved into one outlet.

What is the meaning behind the name of your blog, Stylelista Confessions?

When brainstorming possible names for my blog, the idea was for the name to translate to a place where I could confess my obsessions but also write under a sur name. So, I created "Stylelista". For the longest time I remained anonymous as I wanted to build the trust of "Stylelista" before I revealed my name. I want my blog to be a place where readers can go to get advice that they will relate to, which I think I have created.

You often post about affordable pieces of clothing .. what is your favorite accessible designer?

During college, as well as my time now as a recent graduate, I had to master the art of budgeting. While I love couture and high end pieces, they aren't realistic for my lifestyle. I want to post about items that my readers and myself can afford. I love all the collaborations that couture designers do with affordable stores like Target and H&M, but I couldn't say I have one set accessible designer. I love stores like Forever 21, Nordstrom BP, Urban Outfitters. (I love a great sale and stocking up on great items at great prices!)

What are your favorite websites for digital inspiration?

That's a tough question since I live on my laptop. I find a lot of inspiration on other blogs like Cupcakes and Cashmere, and See Jane. I am also obsessed with the ever popular Pinterest, Refinery 29 and WhoWhatWear.

I always turn to Stylelista Confessions for the latest award show's best dressed.

You're currently living in busy L.A., what can you be found doing on a Saturday? and how would you describe your weekend attire?

No Saturday is typical for me. I spend a lot of my Saturday's hiking in Los Angeles or shopping in Hollywood. I enjoy exploring the city. As soon as Summer rolls around you will find me living at the beach! My weekend attire is very casual and laid back. I love a pair of skinny jeans (my current obsession is colored denim) with a great top and a cute pair of boots or ballet flats. I always go to jeans because I feel most comfortable in them. The final step? Accessorizing.

I love to play around with casual items but still feel myself and comfortable!

I've had my eyes on the classic ballet J. Crew flats for years, but can't bring myself to spend $125.00 on them. (sigh) I've started looking for cheaper alternatives, and have finally found some. Banana Republic is now carrying a similar version for a little less, at $98.00.

Since Spring is around the corner, I figured my feet will need a pop of color. I'm loving this yellow.

Can you tell which one is from J. Crew?

ALDO is also carrying a similar version, but unfortunately, not in the same bright colors as the other two brands. Still, I'm loving these peach flats, and for $70.00, they're definitely a cheaper alternative.

A couple of quick thoughts on the Oscar's.

I usually don't enjoy watching any type of awards show, due to the fact that they're usually boring as hell. But I thoroughly enjoyed the red carpet and the 1 hour of the show that I saw. Billy Crystal, although a little rocky at first, turned out to get a few laughs out of me. I mean Crystal sharing a smooch with George Clooney? Pure jealousy. Sacha Baren Cohen spilling "fake" ashes on Ryan Seacrest was a train wreck. Although funny, I'm not sure why Cohen was even there. The brief appearance of Will Ferrel and Zack Galifianakis, and the hilarious Emma Stone. She should totally host the Oscar's next year with some stud actor.

Wardrobe Saviour

I am in a full on war with my wardrobe right now. Over the last year I've lost a lot of weight which basically means I've been having to buy a lot of new pieces for my closet.

All of the basic staple shirts I bought months ago are now way to big, jeans are super loose in the waist but tight in my legs, tops fit well in the middle area but the straps are too long. I could go on and on and on. My closet is basically a mixture of every size of clothing. I would love to put certain pieces together but the problem is most of them are too big to pair with say a sweater.

For a while I just thought, "well put off buying clothes for a while!", but that was impossible to stick too.

Enter my latest solution:

Stylemint.

A new basic or not so basic shirt every month for $29.99.

This is my first purchase! I feel like this is a good shirt to start with to gauge the sizing. I have heard the sizing runs a little large, so I'm hoping a size 2 fits well.

Wearable Spring Trends.

With how the weather has been since the beginning of Winter, it is not hard to believe that Spring is just around the corner. After picking up the February issue of Flare magazine, it had hit me that I had no idea what the Spring trends were. (Sad, I know)

As a University student I find that a lot of the trends aren't wearable or practical, especially in the city I live in. But, I was quite impressed with how practical the Spring 2012 trends were.

Here are a few trends that I think will be practical for the every day fashionable student.

Picture perfect prints. Cholé.

A unique trend that reappeared during Paris Fashion Week was photo prints. While you may have to pay big bucks for the stunning engineered prints, more affordable versions can be found in almost every style and store. Think this blouse from Zara or this blouse from Aritzia.

Pastels. Chanel.

I love pastels. The color really is perfect for Spring and is absolutely beautiful. According to Flare magazine, the shades were presented in "minty greens and pinks, plus yellow, coral and powder blue." This is a simple wearable trend for students and can be worn in many different ways. Think colored denim and flowy blouses.

Lacey Details. Louis Vuitton.

Lace was shown through different styles, cuts, and colors throughout Paris Fashion Week. Although this was forecasted as a trend for Spring, lace everything is a trend that has been dominant in stores for the last few seasons, especially at Aritzia.

Trenches. Junya Watanabe.

When I saw this trend I immediately thought "Trench coats for Spring? Groundbreaking" circa The Devil Wears Prada. But, this year trench coats are more diverse, ranging from couture inspired to translating a more sporty vibe.

I missed the Missoni for Target debut by a mile, but was lucky enough to score some cups and plates from the clearance section. The affordably priced Jason Wu Collection for Target debuts on February 5th in stores and online and is going to be fabulous.

I personally believe this line is aimed at a different crowd, with it being for the more so high-fashion lovers. While it may not draw the same hype as the Missoni Collection, it will probably end up selling out, which is unfortunate news for me. I'm hoping to make a trip a few days after the collection hits stores and pick up whatever I can get my hands on!

The only splurge I made during my trip, which says something about all the sales! (House of Harlow)

Chicago. I mean, there's no words. It is even more apparent to me now that I belong in a big city.

The shopping was great, especially the sales. I'm from a small town so the fact that Zara was five steps outside my hotel almost made me faint.

The food .. delicious. Deep dish pizza. Sprinkles Cupcakes. Lunch on the 95th floor at the Signature Room.

The tall buildings. All of the people. The hustle and bustle of the city.

I am smitten with Chicago.

Flight essentials. Smart water, Starbucks, and magazines.

What I woke up to every morning.

Lunch on the 95th floor at the Signature Room.

My purchases (above). Mainly from Zara and Forever 21. I scored a gorgeous pair of Dolce Vita boots for almost 70% off at Bloomingdales. I purchased a lot of wardrobe staples and I can't wait to try out my new fur vest.
Sprinkles Cupcakes are sinful. I ate 4 in 3 days. Disgusting, I know.

The Windy City

Tomorrow I leave for the Windy City (Chicago) and I couldn't be more in need of an actual vacation. One thing I'm a little nervous about .. the weather. It's suppose to be freezing. Even though most of our time will be spent indoors (hopefully shopping), I'm going to need to bundle up!

Pinterest has provided me with outfit inspiration to brave the cold weather.

Chunky scarfs, layers upon layers, and even a little fur are crucial pieces for surviving the winter weather. How will you keep warm this winter?

I cannot believe it's the second last day of the year. This year has flown by.

The year 2011 was definitely an interesting one. Risks were taken, important relationships ended and new ones began, a memorable trip taken with my best girlfriends, a blog was created, my stress level reached a new high, exciting opportunities were presented, and after it all, I'm glad I made it.

My new years eve is going to be disturbingly quiet compared to previous years, but I must say that I'm looking forward to a quiet night in after the hectic holiday season.

I'm starting off the new year by heading to Chicago for a couple of days with family. If you have any restaurant recommendations or interesting shops please send them my way!

I have been searching for a relatively affordable pair of black pumps to wear over the Holiday season. I hate spending over $50.00 only because I know they'll eventually get ruined.

So I'm looking for options that won't break the bank, including a shipping fee.

Payless has really stepped up their game lately. They have gorgeous pumps for super low prices.

Regularly $34.99, now $24.99.

Forever 21 always has affordable shoes of every style, but until the Forever 21 in our mall opens, it makes it a little difficult to return them if they don't fit.

I find that Aldo always has great sales going on. Even though the prices are a little higher, I can justify spending an extra $20-30 because of the quality of the shoe.

It's Friday, and I'm thankful that I have a part-time job. One of the reasons I decided to take a job during the school year is because of my mild shopping addiction. I can admit it. But hey, I can't really help it.

Which leads me to my two latest additions ..

After a week of debating (and constantly checking to make sure it wasn't sold out) I decided to purchase the Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC in black. I couldn't resist. I have the larger Rebecca Minkoff Mini M.A.B but I wanted something smaller for my upcoming trip to Chicago. But now I'm left impatiently waiting for it to arrive ..

Also, my mother gifted me the Clarisonic MIA as an early Christmas present. I have horribly sensitive skin, and nothing ever seems to work. So after reading countless reviews, I decided that I would give it a try. I can't wait to see how it works and if it really makes a difference. I've heard nothing but good things!

I will personally be stuck in the library all weekend long, but I hope you all have a good weekend!

This is so true it almost makes me want to cry. I've been debating on purchasing a bag that I've had my eye on for the last week. And of course, where did I see it? On a blog. Go figure.

Want to know what else drives me crazy?

How do these bloggers afford all of these beautiful/coveted/trendy items when they're not being gifted to them? Seriously. I need to know.

It's almost like how does Carrie Bradshaw afford her fabulous life on her income? This is something that angers me and intrigues me at the same time.

And how do I as a University student, with a part-time job, afford all of the things I see on blogs? I always tell myself .. stop being materialistic, just stop logging on to google reader, spend more time away from twitter. But it never happens. Reading blogs is a hobby/obsession, twitter is my life, and being materialistic is a horrible habit I developed in high-school, so the chance of breaking that habit is very slim.

I think I need help.

Grumpy. That is the one word to describe my mood right now. It's literally down-pouring outside and it hasn't stopped all morning/afternoon. Rain does horrible things to me.

My weekend spent shopping was a huge success. I finally gave in to the colored pant trend, purchasing a pair of chocolate brown skinny's from the Gap, picked up the Clarisonic MIA, which I hope lives up to all the reviews and hype, and purchased some basics from H&M.

Now on to a week of papers and midterms. Oh, the life of a student.

Finally. After months of debating on which style to get, or to even get it at all, I finally gave in. I've had my eyes on this watch for over a year.

The photos in this magazine are stunning. I mean, would you look at the cover? Just beautiful.

The new Starbucks app is giving me one more reason to indulge in my favorite drinks, from my favorite brand.

After searching high and low through Target for anything thing left from the Missoni Collection I found these cups in the clearance section. Score!

Where to begin with this polish. I obviously have a serious addiction to nail polish, and I think it's about to get a lot worse. I purchased 'Stormy Weather', but quite honestly, it was hard to choose. I'll definitely be purchasing more during my trip to Chicago.

I have been put on 'unsupportive shoe bed-rest'. Why you may ask? I got into a car accident a couple of years ago, and now have a herniated disc and numerous other problems. Basically, my back has gotten worse and I am not allowed to wear a shoe that does not offer good support. So .. pretty much all of my footwear is out of the question.

I am being FORCED to sport running shoes. One of my biggest problems; I do not have a wardrobe that is 'running-shoe friendly'. So needless to say, I'm a little devastated. Sporting Lululemon yoga pants and t-shirts to school is not exactly my idea of well .. fashion.

And of course, with not being able to wear any shoes but running shoes, I can't help but dream about all of the footwear I could be wearing. Typical, right?

And that is my first rant .. ever.

Mid-Week Slump

It's the middle of the week and of course .. I am slowly losing steam. Unfortunately, there's no slowing down any time soon for me, especially with mid terms just beginning.

I am ecstatic! College Fashionista has been a staple on my Google Reader for a while, and I'm more than embarrassed to say that until now, I had no idea that my own school, The University of Western Ontario (along with other Ontario Universities) was featured on the website. I have a bad habit of skimming through things ..

I'm ecstatic because although Western can be known for almost half of the school going overboard on a hot trend (which I fall prey to every once and a while), we do have some great style and trend setters at this school. I'm constantly looking out for the latest trends and great outfits on campus.

I've been smitten with Rachel Bilson ever since The O.C. The reason I'm so drawn to her? I would like to think I share several similarities with her; both being short, petite, with brown hair and having a crush on Hayden Christensen. I will confidently admit, I have been missing her on my television. That's why I am so thrilled that she'll be back on my television screen in Hart of Dixie which is premiering this fall on the CW.

For some reason I have become recently obsessed with beauty products. When it comes to make up, I hardly wear any. I'm more of a foundation, mascara and bronzer kind of girl, but lately I've been feeling like I need to switch up my routine. I have been stuck in the middle of nowhere for work for the last month. That means no shopping, no thai food, no proper gym .. basically, nothing. But the thing that I've been missing thee most is of course SHOPPING. Finally I made my way to a mall, and I was ecstatic, even though it left little to be desired.

I picked up a new sweater/poncho from H&M which will be perfect for Fall, and polka-dot dress from H&M as well which I instantly fell in love with.

I also purchased this side bag which I've been lusting after for a while (seen here)

and this beaded statement necklace from H&M for $5.00 (steal!)

And of course (knowing me), I couldn't leave the mall with out a new nail polish. I bought Essie's new polish 'Fair Game', a metallic dark silver that will be great for Fall.

I'm Still Alive ..

Yes, I am still alive regardless of the inactivity on my blog. I'm currently working at a resort five hours from home, so I will admit I'm a little out of my element, but I am having thee best time so far. I live within a 2 minute walk from my job, the spa, the gym, the best frozen yogurt store, the beach, the liquor store, and an amazing group of new friends. But when I say I'm out of my element I am not kidding. I live in mediocre accommodations with limited wireless internet connection and a unfathomable amount of bugs. (I almost feel like Carrie when she goes to Adin's 'cottage') I decided it would be in my best interest to leave my 'nicer' clothes at home and have been totally out of my comfort zone. I feel like I'm slowly becoming a different person. My latest compulsion? Internet shopping. I'm itching to get my first pay check so I can make an order on Forever 21.

Girl Crush: Blair Eadie

I love finding new blogs, and Blair Eadie's is no exception.

Her style is unique, forward, and individualistic. Not only can she throw the perfect pieces together to create a complimentary ensemble, but her take on accessories is fabulous, which to me, equals a flawless sense of style. Recently she was featured on WhoWhatWear's website in the editorial Style Stalker, where I discovered her. I must admit, I'm almost upset that I only just now found out about this talented woman. She's now a must-read in my google reader, and her blog offers tons of outfit inspiration.

Although all of her outfits are my favorite, here are a few that really stood out to me:

A simple outfit, jeans with a little bit of sparkle.

I wouldn't personally be able to pull off an outfit like this, but she mixes patterns flawlessly.

The MTV Movie Awards

I don't usually watching the ~~Twilight Awards~~ MTV Movie Awards, but they had me at Jason Sudeikis (swoon). While I wasn't overly impressed with the fashion, I loved the show. It was hilarious, and regardless of what anyone says, Jason Sudeikis' humor and jokes were bang on. Yes, he may have made a little too many jokes about Arnold Schwarzenegger, but I mean, he made his own bed, he should have to lay in it.

A couple things I loved:

- Emma Stone is now a red-head again

- Everything Robert Pattinson; his acceptance speech, his speech to Reese Witherspoon, especially dropping an F bomb on live television, Taylor Lautner and Rob 'fake' making out for 'Best Kiss', and of course, his accent. Seriously, I am even more smitten, which I didn't think was possible.

- One dress I did like; Emma Watson in Marchesa

- One outfit I didn't; Jessica Szhor in Alice + Olivia

Seriously, what is this?

- Jason Sudeikis' dig at Selena Gomez about Justin Bieber .. epic.

- Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis groping each other on stage.

- Reese Witherspoon bringing up the recent nude photo scandal with out really saying Blake Lively's name with Blake Lively in the crowd. Burn.

- Reese Witherspoon calling Robert Pattinson a "mother f'er", and Robert Pattinson saying that he 'f***** Reese'.

Things I didn't like:

- Kristen Stewart winning Best Actress. No offense, I personally do not think she deserved it. Maybe, Natalie Portman, but not her.

- Basically every award going to the Twilight Cast. Even though it is my all-time favorite saga (only because of Edward), I believe that Harry Potter should've received the award for Best Movie. It was 100x better and more exciting than Twilight, like hellooo.

- Blake Lively's dress. I thought she was going to be in something more fantastic, I was kind of let down.

I was recently lucky enough to get my hands on a Nikon D3000, and I have to say, I am in love. Absolutely smitten, head over heels, crushing, obsessed. Previously I had a Canon, but wasn't loving the quality, and with me taking a trip to Vancouver in August I figured why not get what I like to call a 'professional' camera. Plus, I got it on sale! (*jumping up and down*)

Venturing Through the European Countryside ..

I haven't been fortunate enough to travel to Europe yet, but hopefully next year I will be in England visiting relatives, instead of hitting the hot spots (i.e., Mexico, the Dominican) like my fellow students.

After stumbling upon these absolutely breath taking pictures of Bella Pollen's (writer and former head of a fashion company) home it has become even more clear to me how desperately I need to travel to England. While the inside of the home is entirely charming, I found myself more drawn towards the exterior, mainly the romantic gardens.

Right now I am in love with Vogue.com's '5 Days, 5 Looks, 1 Girl' editorial on some of thee most fashionable ladies of Vogue. They're fashion sense is perfection, which I would assume is a mandatory requirement for working at such a prestigious magazine.

I've always loved nail polish, but I am officially addicted. I'm not sure if it's because summer is around the corner (which makes me think bright nail polish) or if I just want to expand my collection, but one thing is for sure, the fact that Shopper's Drug Mart has Essie nail polish on for $9.00 certainly helps feed my addiction. I've been eyeing Essie's Summer Collection for a month or so now, so when I found it at Shopper's and saw that it was on-sale I almost jumped for joy in the middle of the store.

I had to of course purchase 'Brazilliant', it's the perfect pop of color!

And I also purchased 'Sew Psyched' which I've been seeing on all of my favorite blogger's nails.

I haven't quite decided which colors I'll be purchasing next. But I'm figuring 2 polishes a week until they're no longer on sale should end my addiction.

Anyone who is an Alexander McQueen fan knows the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is holding an exhibit showcasing his remarkable masterpieces. Considering I live thousands of miles away from New York I'm currently persuading my mother to take a quick 5 day trip there at some point this summer (which I am making good progress on) so I can attend.

Zara, Zara, Zara ..

I have unfortunately only stepped foot in a Zara once in my entire life. The closest one is three hours away, and Zara Canada doesn't provide online shopping .. so needless to say, I'm a little heartbroken. I am constantly browsing through their website lusting over almost every single one of their pieces, and with their May Lookbook, I am once again not disappointed.

I am loving the (what I would like to call) 'royal blue' hues. A rich, deep solid hue paired with a crazy patterned bottom.

Loose, light-weight tops are key for summer weather.

I do not own anything to hold my jewelry in. Shocking right? I use to keep my jewelry in plastic bags which is just embarrassing. Now that my jewelry collection is starting to expand I'm finding that the plastic bags will just not suffice any longer. Which leads me to my hunt for the perfect jewelry holder/stand/bowl, it's a lot harder than you think. I don't want something that looks too girly, but I don't want something that is plain and simple.

I stumbled upon Nasty Gal's website a week or so ago, and am I ever glad I did. They offer a mix of new designer pieces and treasured vintage pieces. Being someone who has never owned a piece of vintage clothing, I've found tons of newer designer pieces that I am now lusting after .. a few of my favorites are above, and can all be found on the website. How important is nail polish to you?

I solely base my color decision on the mood I'm in at that point in time. But, not only can it reflect my mood, it can change it. I often turn to Essie's bright and fun 'Mint Candy Apple' when I need a quick pick me up. I've also come to appreciate nail polish as the perfect accessory to put the finishing touches on an outfit.

I've found myself stuck in a rut when looking for new polish colors. I constantly find myself picking my colors strictly from O.P.I or Essie (a force of habit). However, with my Google Reader rapidly expanding with new blogs, I've been introduced to trend setting brands like Deborah Lippmann and Butter London.

Upon my discoveries, I decided to explore Butter London's website.
Conclusion: Although a little more expensive ($17.00 a bottle), I am completely smitten with all of their unique colors and fun packages, and not too mention, all of their polishes are made with out those 'chemical nasties', so they're also healthy (who knew?)!

I'm hoping that these polishes will be coming my way in the near future;

I Want Candy

BUT .. if you're looking for a less expensive way to brighten your nails may I suggest American Apparel's nail polishes, which I've become increasingly interested in. For only $7.50, which is less than the four brands listed above, you can find colors similar to those in Butter London and Deborah Lippman's collections.

And with American Apparel just releasing their Limited-Edition Neon Polishes, it is an inexpensive (no shipping fee!) way to start sporting that neon trend.

The Never-ending 'To-Do' List ..

Now that I am officially done my second year of University, I am starting to check things off my to-do list. The task that seems to be taking up the most space on my list?

Beginning and finishing the books that I purchased at the start of the school year. It's hard to fit in time for reading anything other than a text book. This is including Lo Bosworth's The Lo-Down, Last Night at Chateau Marmont, and Water for Elephants, which I am determined to finish before the I see the movie.

Next on my to do list: read every magazine that I have been neglecting over the last few months. When I do purchase a magazine during the school year, I often just skim through them. But now I can give my devoted attention to every single article. My favorites? InStyle, ELLE, and Vogue.

Try new things. What I would like to call Make-up/Beauty Product DIY's. I have been dying to try Sally Hansen's Salon Effects, and conveniently enough, their website offers a 'How-To' video. And with Lauren Conrad just launching her new website The Beauty Department, I'm sure I'll be trying the countless 'How-To's' over the course of the summer.

Next ..

Organize, Organize, Organize. I am extremely motivated to find something to hold my jewelry in. Whether it be a jewelry stand, bowls, old saucers, anything. Mark my word, I will find something.

Incorporate more accessories (mainly jewelry) in my outfits. Yes this is a task, due to the fact that I am the worst for remembering to put on jewelry in the morning. I figured once I was gifted my newest Tiffany&Co. bracelet I'd remember to put it on every morning, but I don't think I've worn it once this week. As well, I need to purchase more jewelry. I lose rings like it's my job. So, I guess this is more about having a better memory and being more responsible?

I'm sure I'll be adding to this list throughout the summer .. a to-do list really is never ending for me.

Who doesn't love a gift from time to time? We all know that make-up is rather expensive, so it's nice to get a little free gift every once and a while, even if they are just sample sizes.

I have thee most sensitive skin and unfortunately I do need to spend the big bucks on my make-up if I want products that are not just going to provide good coverage, but are going to be good for my skin. So when I found out that Clinique was running their seasonal promotion.. free gift with a purchase, I jumped the gun to purchase my every-day products so I could collect some new colors to wear for Spring.

I purchased their Even Better foundation and All About Eyes Serum, and not only did I get a free gift with purchase, I also got a $15.00 gift card. Double plus.

I'm loving the shade of their lipstick (found here), and even though it's a darker hue than what I would like for Spring, I found myself re-applying it all day, which means I must like it considering I hardly ever wear lipstick. I'm also excited to try out their eye-shadow palette which features earth-tone colors.

This gift made my day, even if I did have to spend a little money to receive it.
